Summary The purpose of this position is to assist all victims seeking a protective order from the Criminal District Attorney's Office.

C serves as a legal assistant to the prosecutor handling the protective order cases and a liaison to law enforcement, the crisis center, and the victim.
This individual will have daily contact with the public, governmental officials and other law enforcement agencies.

may also help prepare criminal files for misdemeanor and/or felony cases, prepare discovery, and pull dockets.
The person will be using a multi-line telephone and a computer.
This individual will also backup the Felony and Misdemeanor clerks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Duties include the following:
VICTIM ASSISTANCE Meet with victims seeking to apply for protective orders.
Assist the prosecutor(s) assigned to represent the state in protective order cases.
Assist with the completion of necessary paperwork for protective orders and other victim services.
Contact law enforcement agencies to gather reports and data.
Review the victim's paperwork to assure completion and that all necessary information has been provided.
File court documents for protective orders.
Prepare a victim file.
Act as a liaison between the victim, the prosecutor, and the Crisis Center.
Talk to victims on phone or in person.
Comfort and provide support during court.
Provide resources for community outreach to victims.
Keep in contact with victims throughout the case.
Send victim a letter with court date notices and information.
Calculate and show documentation to support restitution requests.
Contact victim if there is a conflict in restitution figures.
Send restitution figures and information to District Clerk's Office for disbursement.
MISCELLANEOUS Complete other duties as may be assigned.
Attend training seminars relating to victims' assistance coordinators, protective orders, and services provided to victims.
Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE A high school diploma or GED equivalent required.
The individual should possess a thorough working knowledge of clerical procedures and practices.
Must have a demonstrated ability in good public relations skills, communication abilities, effectively deal with sensitive topics and issues, professional demeanor, use of a multi-line telephone, hands-on computer experience and excellent writing skills.
Experience in criminal law would be helpful, but not required.
Desired Minimum Qualifications LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public and persons in the legal system.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Legal Assistant certification preferred, but not required.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
